At KIMAK, we worked closely with El Departamento and the Bershka creative team on a distinctive project within the Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre, delivering the full execution of two opposing yet complementary retail units, each with its own identity.

The Project

The main store, with a total area of 512 m², houses the women’s and men’s collections. Its design is inspired by contemporary Japanese architecture, based on assembly systems with no visible screws or fixings, creating a space that balances industrial precision with an artisanal sensibility. This constructive concept is applied throughout both the central and perimeter furniture, combining industrial processes with handcrafted finishes.

The project is developed through a modular logic that structures the space by repeating a single system, generating a sequence of environments with varying intensities and transitions. The design is defined by the use of noble materials such as walnut-veneered plywood and Alpi veneer, a high-quality Italian engineered veneer produced in limited series through semi-artisanal processes. This material selection highlights KIMAK’s ability to manage high-specification materials and apply them with precision in large-format projects.

These elements are combined with milled lacquered panels, hand-filled to achieve an intentionally irregular and handcrafted appearance, adding character and uniqueness to the overall space.

The final accent is provided by the satin-finished stainless steel used in the self-checkout areas—one of the project’s main technical challenges due to the complexity of forming its distinctive, fully bespoke undulating surfaces.

The modular furniture system, conceived as one of the key elements of the store, was

was designed to optimize transport, installation, and future reconfigurations, providing a high degree of operational flexibility.

This strategy not only improves execution timelines but also establishes a scalable and adaptable model aligned with the needs of shopping centres, representing a significant advancement within Bershka’s retail design and operational standards.

Opposite the main store is a second retail space of approximately 100 m², dedicated to the BSK Teen concept. This satellite store, which complements the main space directly across the street, adopts a youthful and experimental aesthetic, combining vibrant colors, lacquered surfaces, and glossy and metallic finishes, all unified by a soft butter-toned base.

The project was developed and executed entirely in record time, completed in just four weeks including modeling, fabrication, transport, and on-site installation.

The Bershka Vasco da Gama project reflects a balance between technical innovation, functional design, and operational flexibility, successfully responding to two distinct retail formats within a single commercial environment.

It demonstrates KIMAK’s ability to deliver retail spaces on a fully integrated basis, from modular furniture systems and bespoke elements to wall finishes, fitting rooms, storefronts, and technical areas, all executed with a high level of precision and constructive coherence.
