Bershka opens its first store in Denmark with a flagship project in the heart of Copenhagen. Located on Vimmelskaftet, one of the city’s busiest and most emblematic shopping streets, the store occupies a historic building that shaped the project from the very beginning: a careful balance between heritage and contemporaneity, where the brand’s identity engages with the building’s original architecture.
The store was delivered entirely by KIMAK, which undertook the project on a turnkey basis, supporting Bershka from the earliest development stages through to the final opening.
The project begins on the exterior, with the refurbishment of the façade, windows and shopfronts—an essential intervention to enhance the store’s visibility and update its urban presence, while maintaining a respectful dialogue with the existing architectural context.
From the entrance, the space unfolds into a generous, bright and dynamic circulation across more than 1,500 m² distributed over two floors, housing the women’s, men’s and the new BSK Teen collections. The spatial layout, lighting and implemented signage promote a clear reading of the space and guide customers seamlessly throughout the store.
The material language that defines the brand’s Copenhagen image—serving as the starting point for the entire interior identity—acts as the project’s unifying backbone. Maple veneer wood is complemented by lacquered MDF finishes in green and grey, creating a consistent thread across furniture, panels and cladding. This palette, aligned with the city’s contemporary spirit, defines the project’s chromatic atmosphere, visually unifying the two floors
creating a cohesive and carefully curated atmosphere throughout.
KIMAK was responsible for the full execution of all furniture and decorative elements, from garment rails and shelving to tables and display systems, as well as the implementation of the checkout and self-checkout areas on the upper floor. The fitting rooms were also delivered in their entirety, featuring a renewed design defined by full tile-effect cladding, which connects them visually with other areas of the store where this distinctive material is also present.
At the heart of the ground floor, a singular element emerges, conceived exclusively for this store: a tiered seating structure in maple wood that becomes the project’s focal point, acting as an organising feature around which the remaining circulation paths and display systems are arranged.
Among the store’s iconic features is a large-format screen, integrated into a geometric wooden panel designed specifically for Copenhagen and produced for the first time as part of this project.
The unique character of this historic building required an especially precise execution process, in which close coordination between teams was essential to deliver solutions tailored to the building’s specific conditions and existing installations.
